Interview Jara Brinkman

JARA SPEAK ABOUT HER ROLE AS STAKEHOLDER COORDINATOR AT VEENIX

Outside, contractor VEENIX is already fully engaged in preparatory work for the widening and deepening of the A9 between the Badhoevedorp and Holendrecht interchanges. We take you behind the scenes and introduce you to the people behind VEENIX and Rijkswaterstaat.

Together we want the project to run as smoothly as possible for all stakeholders. That team spirit motivates and makes the work fun!

WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU DO FOR WORK?

'My position means that I represent the interests of the parties involved, such as the municipality, residents and the Amsterdamse Bos, within VEENIX before and during the implementation of the A9BAHO. For that I need to know what is going on and what everyone considers important. In contact with the stakeholders involved, we always work together with Rijkswaterstaat. If there are concrete actions and plans that are being carried out by VEENIX outside and that influence the environment, it is up to me to inform everyone.'

WHAT ARE YOU DOING INSIDE NOW?

‘We are carrying out this work on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat. Where they inform the general public, we inform the immediate environment where the work is taking place about the possible nuisance this entails. Specifically for the A9, these are now mainly the preparatory work, such as soil research and concrete research.

Together with a communication colleague, we communicate this type of work to local residents via residents' letters. We have previously held residents' evenings that attracted many people. We try to think along as much as possible about how we can inform the environment as well as possible. When we really start with the widening and deepening construction, we will periodically consult with a group of residents about the nuisance of the work; Do the nuisance mitigation measures work or are we overlooking things? Can we do things better? For example, we try to think along with the environment to get through the construction period as well as possible.'

WHAT MAKES YOUR WORK SO EXCITING?

‘You really are a spider in the web between a lot of internal and external parties, which makes it a lot of fun for me. Of course you can think of everything from behind your desk, but when you are at a residents' evening you really notice that it is alive with the environment and that people have a need for information. What also makes the work beautiful is that we form a team with Rijkswaterstaat. Together we want the project to run as smoothly as possible for all stakeholders. That team spirit motivates and makes the work fun!'

Commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat, VEENIX is widening the A9 between the Badhoevedorp and Holendrecht interchanges to four lanes in each direction and is constructing a reversing lane. The A9 Badhoevedorp-Holendrecht project is part of the Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere road expansion.
